About me and my art:

My name is Henri Mollé, I am 32 years old and have lived here in Austin since 2000. Born and raised in France where I lived on a small island until the age of 19, I was given my first camera by my dad when I was 10… I have been taking pictures since then.

Starting in 1996, I travelled around the world for a few years, (became a flying trapeze artist) and somehow ended up in Texas in 1999. During that time, I developed a tendency in my photography for bold colors, strong textures and different light conditions. I remember being inspired by the magic moment (l’heure bleue) just around sunset in the Caribbean islands, Cuba and Sicily.

In 2000 I turned to digital photography. For the first few years, I explored the different possibilities offered by the camera. Recently, I decided to push my photography to the next level, using the latest computer technologies.

Some of the images that I produce are made out of more than 80 photos, slowly layered; stitched and warped in order to obtain one seamless image that is “super high resolution”. Once I am satisfied with the base image, I start manipulating colors, textures and shapes using powerful software in order to obtain images that are unique, bright and colorful.

Utilizing those tools allows me to show what a view made me “feel like” as opposed to just demonstrate what it “looked like”. A Nikon SLR camera and a Dell computer are my brushes and paint; my computer monitor, my canvas.

I would define my style as “modern, digital, post impressionism with a touch of surrealism”… I am a fan of Vincent Van Gogh, Paul Cézanne and Salvador Dali.

This past year, I have focused my work on Austin, but my favorite time to shoot remains the "magic hour", (for me) it starts 30 minutes before sunset and ends 30 minutes after. During that timeframe, I have been known to take upwards of 600 photos without moving my tripod once. I usually prepare a photo shoot several days in advance in order to optimize timing, location and weather.

Because of the high resolution nature of some of my images, they often look better when printed over 6 feet long. Please contact me for custom projects and commissioned images.

All my prints are hand signed, printed on high quality material by the best printers possible. I offer printing solutions on paper, wood and canvas.
